  • I’m Lindsey, the Community Connections Manager at People Loving Nashville—and I’m SO glad you signed up to serve! Welcome to the PLN fam.

    Here are a few things to help you feel ready and excited for your first night:

    Stay up to date on all things PLN by joining our GroupMe here! You’ll see updates, events, needs, and more opportunities to serve — it’s the easiest way to stay connected with our community.

    What You’ll Be Doing
    This is your first night serving, so you’ll join us for a New Volunteer Training. You’ll be greeted at HQ and walked through what to expect, and then you’ll join the training where you’ll learn more about our mission and the heart behind what we do.

    During our 6:00 PM huddle, you’ll meet up with your team and team lead, who will walk you through what serving on that team looks like. We’ll then head downtown together at 6:30 for outreach from 7:00–8:15 PM.

    You don’t need to have it all figured out—just show up with a willing heart and we’ll take it from there!

    You’re welcome to park in either the church parking lot or the Dollar Tree parking lot. If you park at the church, just follow the sidewalk between Dollar Tree and the church to find the entrance. I’ve included a graphic below to show you where to enter the building!    

    Once you enter the building, look for me (Lindsey)—I’ll give you a quick welcome and help get you set up for the night. Here’s what the schedule will look like:

    5:15–6:00 PM – New Volunteer Training
    6:00 PM – Group Volunteer Huddle + Meet Your Team
    6:30 PM – Head Downtown
    7:00–8:15 PM – Outreach on Gay Street & 1st Ave (by the river)

    A Few Important Things

    • It’s okay to be nervous—we’ve all been there!

    • You’re stepping into a community full of kind, welcoming people who want to help you feel confident and supported.

    • On a more practical note - there are no public restrooms downtown, so make sure to use the restroom before leaving HQ!

  • What You’ll Be Doing
    Serving at Proclamation Church:

    • Organizing the grocery line and handing out items (donated by partners like Second Harvest & Turnip Truck)

    • Riding the shuttle to help residents on and off, especially after they get their groceries

    • Welcoming residents as they enter the building

    • Chatting and hanging out with residents in the main space

    Every role helps our friends feel cared for and welcomed. 💛

  • What You’ll Be Doing
    You’ll help unload vehicles and set up tables, supplies, and stations before outreach begins. Your work behind the scenes creates the foundation for a smooth, welcoming night—making sure everything is ready so our friends feel cared for.

    You’ll help meet a basic need by offering clothing in a way that affirms dignity and beauty. Your care in helping each woman feel seen and valued makes a big difference.

    You’ll help guide the flow of the line, making sure everything stays organized and moves smoothly. You’ll warmly direct people to the next available team member, keep a general count of those who’ve come through, and help create an environment where everyone feels respected, seen, and cared for.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
    You’ll stand at the front of the line to help keep things organized and flowing smoothly. Your role is to warmly direct people to the team member who’s ready to serve clothing, keep track of how many people have gone through the line, and make sure things run efficiently—all while helping everyone feel respected and cared for.

    You’ll help care for the city by picking up trash and checking in with our friends downtown. Your presence helps us leave the space better than we found it—and shows love through both service and connection.

    You’ll help manage volunteer parking downtown between 5:00–6:00 PM, making sure early volunteers park in a way that allows us to fit everyone as more cars arrive. Your role is key to keeping things organized and efficient—helping the night start off with ease and intention.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
    You’ll help manage parking downtown between 6:00–7:00 PM as the majority of volunteers arrive. Your role is crucial in making sure cars are parked efficiently and safely so we can fit everyone. Your presence helps keep things flowing smoothly and allows volunteers to get plugged in without confusion or delay.

Your presence helps create a calming, welcoming environment that can ease tension and build trust before the night even starts.

    You’ll meet at the kitchen to prep, cook, and pack the meal for the night. Your work behind the scenes is essential to nourishing our friends—providing the fuel that makes our outreach possible. Though you won’t be going downtown, your role is a crucial part of the team.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
    You’ll start the evening in the kitchen—prepping, cooking, and packing the meal for our friends downtown. Your work helps make sure everyone is served a warm, nourishing meal and sets the tone for the night.

    Once kitchen prep is finished, you’ll join the rest of the team at HQ to participate in the 6:00 PM volunteer huddle before heading downtown to serve. You’ll receive a separate email with all the details for the downtown team you signed up for.
