Outreach / Social Work Intern
Location: Nashville, TN
People Loving Nashville is an organization providing relief, community, connection, & restoration to the unhoused & most vulnerable of Nashville, Tennessee.
The Outreach / Social Work Intern will work with the Director of Outreach to assist the Outreach Department with outreach engagements, outreach programs, housing navigation, data entry, and other tasks as they relate to working with friends in–or recently out–of homelessness.

The Outreach / Social Work Intern will work with the Director of Outreach to assist the Outreach Department with outreach engagements, outreach programs, housing navigation, data entry, and other tasks as they relate to working with friends in–or recently out–of homelessness.
Responsibilities during the internship will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Day-to-day outreach duties as assigned by the Director of Outreach or outreach staff
- Securing personal identification documents for friends
- Transporting friends to doctor appointments, court dates, identification document offices, support meetings, etc.
- Assist with data tracking
- Attend meetings to advocate for friends in their situations or housing processes and to report back pertinent information to the outreach team
- Various operational support – the movement of donations and supplies, and friend move-ins
Qualifications:
- Completed or working toward a college degree in a related field (e.g., social work, social sciences, psychology, sociology major).
- Flexibility and the ability to maintain a positive attitude with ever-changing schedules, directions, and cases, and to work productively with and without structure
- Comfortable with encampments and other places our friends in homelessness reside in or frequent regular work environments
- Compassion towards people in trauma, in crisis, with physical and/or developmental disabilities, and/or with mental health layers
- Non-judgemental towards and respectful of others with differing life experiences, religious backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds, or other aspects of diversity
- Ability to remain composed in difficult situations, conversations, and environments
- Organized, proactive, and dedicated to helping in a support role
- Proficiency and entry on data management systems, such as organizational data systems, expense tracking, Dropbox, Google Docs, etc.
- Comfortable working alone and in supporting roles with others in and out of the office
- Self-starter, driven, and fast learner
- Minimum of 10 hrs a week
Internship Type:
- Unpaid. Must be eligible to receive course credit to participate in the internship
Time Periods:
- Spring: January - April
- Summer: June - August
- Fall: September - November
